Alter is a new indoor/outdoor athletic club in the heart of West Hollywood’s walkable Design District. We limit our total membership to help manage overcrowding and create a tight-knit community. We offer 24/7 indoor gym access; an outdoor rooftop gym with 360º views; a group fitness studio with a stunning 50ft hi-res video wall and an array of innovative classes; beautiful design and architecture; and a protein-forward cafe with flavors and products you won’t find anywhere else. We offer personal training, group fitness, physical therapy, education seminars, nutrition counseling, and body composition analysis, among other amenities.

Job Description

We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly, and thoughtful Front Desk Associates to join the Alter team. This is a nonexempt hourly position great for candidates looking to join a dynamic fitness startup and make a significant impact as we scale up.

As a Front Desk Associate you’ll be the smiling face people see when they first encounter the club and every time thereafter. You’ll be responsible for many of the day-to-day operations of the club: working the front desk and smoothie bar, ensuring the club looks impeccable, growing and maintaining our membership, and helping our community to thrive. You’ll work with our Community & Sales Director and the rest of the leadership team to ensure a great member and employee experience from start to finish.

Front Desk Associate Responsibilities

  • Work the front desk: greet members and potential members; get to know them; give them tours; check them in; sell them memberships, products, and food and bev; etc.
  • Work the smoothie bar: prepare smoothies and other food according to specific recipe and instructions; keep the space sparkling clean; monitor supply levels and restock from storage as needed and/or report low stock to manager; etc.
  • Operate our gym management software to handle member sales, cancelations, and other issues
  • Open and/or close the gym
  • Monitor and take the necessary actions to maintain a high level of client, member, employee, and personal satisfaction
  • Work with the Sales, Marketing, and Fitness teams to acquire and maintain clients and members, including but not limited to emailing, texting, snail mailing, and calling leads
  • Assist management with daily tasks and other projects as necessary
  • Keep up-to-date records and reports of staff, members, and leads
  • Ensure KPI’s and sales targets are consistently met
  • Meet with your manager on a regular basis
  • Motivate others, keep a positive attitude, and exceed expectations
  • Constantly grow, develop, and share further skills in coaching, sales, marketing, business, hospitality, fitness, health, wellness, etc.

Front Desk Sales Associate Requirements

  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. Part-time employees must have at least 3 days of availability, with at least one of those days being a Saturday or Sunday.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, reach, climb, and stand for long durations of time.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and otherwise manipulate up to 50 lbs at a time

Front Desk Associate Extra Credit

  • 1-3+ yrs of previous experience in a similar role
  • CPR/AED certification
  • A degree in a related field (hospitality, sales, marketing, business, etc.)
  • Current nationally recognized Personal Training certification from an accredited program (ACSM, ACE, NASM, NCSA, AFFA, ISSA, or NFPT)
  • Certifications in a related field (digital marketing, customer service, hospitality, fitness, etc)
