Paint Protection Film (PPF) Installation Technician
Alpha Finish | Newtown, PA | Full-Time
About the Role
Alpha Finish is a premium surface protection studio specializing in paint protection film, ceramic coating, and window film for owners of premium and performance vehicles, homes, and businesses. PPF is our core service and primary revenue driver — this role is central to the business, not a support function.
We're looking for a precise, detail-obsessed PPF installer to handle automotive paint protection film work in our Newtown Township studio. As Alpha Finish's surface protection offerings grow, there may be opportunities to apply your film installation skills beyond vehicles as well.
Key Responsibilities
- Install pre-cut and/or bulk-cut paint protection film to Alpha Finish quality standards: full-panel and full-vehicle coverage, edge wrap, and self-healing top-coat finishes
- Perform thorough pre-install paint prep — decontamination, clay treatment, defect inspection — and flag any pre-existing paint condition issues to management before film is applied
- Execute clean, bubble-free, lift-free installations using proper slip solution, squeegee technique, and heat-gun wrapping on curves, mirrors, and complex panel geometry
- Maintain bay conditions (temperature, humidity, dust control) required for proper film adhesion and cure
- Accurately estimate and communicate realistic bay time per vehicle and film package — bay-time efficiency directly affects shop throughput and revenue
- Conduct final quality inspection before vehicle release
- Maintain and calibrate plotter-cut film inventory and installation tools
- Track material usage and waste for cost control
- Participate in ongoing manufacturer certification and training as Alpha Finish's PPF brand partnership is finalized
- Maintain accurate job documentation in the shop management system
- Uphold Alpha Finish's quality standard as the primary driver of the studio's reputation and warranty commitments
Requirements
- 1+ years of professional PPF installation experience
- Demonstrated precision with plotter-cut kits and/or hand-cut bulk film
- Strong understanding of paint prep, panel geometry, and film-to-substrate adhesion principles
- Steady hands and sustained attention to detail across long installation sessions
- Ability to accurately self-assess and communicate installation time estimates
- Comfortable working to a strict quality standard with low tolerance for rework
Preferred
- Manufacturer-specific PPF installation certification (Alpha Finish will support certification training as our brand partnership is finalized)
- Familiarity with ceramic coating application (useful for cross-trained upsell work)
- Interest in expanding film installation skills to other surfaces as Alpha Finish's service offerings grow
What Alpha Finish Offers
- Competitive pay [hourly base + per-job incentive structure — TBD based on final comp model]
- Manufacturer certification training sponsored by Alpha Finish
- Central role in the studio's highest-margin, highest-visibility service line
- Modern, well-equipped studio facility in Newtown
