Medical Assistant Intern (Unpaid)

Aliso Dermatology – Aliso Viejo, CA

Position Overview

Aliso Dermatology is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant Intern to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced dermatology practice. This is an unpaid educational opportunity designed for individuals pursuing a career in healthcare (pre-med, pre-PA, nursing, or medical assisting) who are eager to learn clinical workflows, patient care, and dermatologic procedures.

The intern will work closely with the dermatologist and clinical team to support daily operations while developing practical clinical and administrative skills.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support

  • Assist with patient rooming, including obtaining chief complaint and history
  • Prepare exam rooms and maintain cleanliness and organization
  • Set up instruments and supplies for dermatologic procedures
  • Assist during procedures (biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, etc.)
  • Clean and restock rooms between patients

Patient Care

  • Help create a welcoming and professional environment for patients
  • Support patient comfort during visits and procedures
  • Reinforce basic post-care instructions as directed

Administrative Support

  • Assist with scanning, organizing, and uploading documents
  • Support patient flow and clinic efficiency
  • Help with basic front office tasks when needed

Learning Opportunities

  • Exposure to medical dermatology, skin cancer screening, and procedures
  • Understanding clinic workflow and patient flow optimization
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Development of communication skills with patients and staff
  • Insight into private practice operations

Qualifications

  • Interest in healthcare or pursuing a medical career
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Professional demeanor and reliability
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Schedule

  • Flexible; minimum commitment of 1–2 days per week preferred
  • Must commit to at least 8–12 weeks for continuity of training

Compensation

  • This is an unpaid internship intended for educational experience only
  • School credit may be available if applicable


Additional Information

This role is observational and supportive in nature. Interns will not perform duties requiring licensure or certification but will gain valuable exposure to clinical dermatology and patient care.
