AlignLayerNine IT Support Technician North Chicago, IL · Full time Company website

On-site IT support technician serving a K-12 school district in eastern Lake County — a people-first role focused on keeping staff technology running across multiple school buildings.

About AlignLayerNine

AlignLayerNine (ALN) is a Chicago-area managed IT and cybersecurity services provider supporting K-12 schools, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, and mid-market businesses. We operate as a dedicated technology partner to our clients — not a break-fix vendor — with specialized teams handling everything from day-to-day IT support to advanced security operations and compliance. Our people work on-site at client locations, embedded in the environments they support, which means the work is hands-on, relationship-driven, and genuinely matters to the communities we serve. We're a growing team with offices in the Chicago area, Naples, FL, London, and Santiago.

Description

AlignLayerNine is a managed IT and cybersecurity services provider supporting K-12 schools and mission-driven organizations. We're looking for an IT Support Technician to join our K-12 team — someone who thrives in a people-first environment, takes pride in responsive service, and is comfortable being the most reliable person in the building when something goes wrong.

This is a dedicated on-site position supporting a K-12 school district in eastern Lake County. You'll work across multiple school buildings — elementary through high school — as the go-to escalation point for technology support. This is not an infrastructure or cabling role; the bulk of your day is user-facing support helping teachers, office staff, and administrators get back to doing their jobs.

What you'll be doing

  • Serving as the Tier 2 escalation point for technology issues, working alongside on-site Tier 1 & 2 technicians
  • Troubleshooting Chromebooks, iPads, MacOS, and Windows PCs — primarily staff-facing, with some student services impact
  • Communicating professionally with school administrators, principals, and district leadership when the site lead is unavailable
  • Following established ticketing and documentation processes — this role is process-oriented by design
  • Supporting periodic device deployment and refresh projects
  • Escalating complex issues with thorough documentation so the right team can act quickly
  • AV Setups and Assistance for Meetings/Events

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years of IT support experience; K-12 or education environment experience is a plus
  • Comfortable supporting a mixed device fleet: Chromebooks, Windows, MacOS, and mobile devices
  • Strong communication skills — you can translate tech into plain language and come across as professional in front of school leadership
  • Process-driven and reliable; you follow the system and document your work
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • A+ or similar certification a plus
  • SEC+ will be a stretch goal in the position if not already held.

Salary

$48,000 - $52,000 per year
