Job Summary
We’re seeking a dedicated and licensed Funeral Director / Site Lead to oversee daily operations at our Mesa crematory location. This is a hands-on role combining funeral director responsibilities with site leadership to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, exceptional service to families, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
The Site Lead acts as the primary on-site contact, coordinating with the central headquarters team and ensuring that families, staff, and partners receive prompt, compassionate, and professional support.
Family Care & Funeral Director Duties
- Serve as the primary licensed Funeral Director for the site, meeting all state licensing requirements.
- Oversee or perform pacemaker removals, viewing prep of decedents as required.
- Support families during viewings, witness cremations.
- Ensure timely and respectful pick-ups and shipping of urns.
Operations Oversight
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the site, ensuring compliance with all safety, health, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and monitor decedent intake, tracking, and condition of remains.
- Support a productive cremation schedule, ensuring timely and orderly processing of all cases; build a efficient crematory operation
- Act as back-up crematory operator; must hold (or be able to obtain) the required crematory operator certification.
- Communicate effectively with the HQ operations team on scheduling, reporting, inventory, and any operational updates through email, Google Sheets, and phone.
Facility & Team Leadership
- Ensure the site is maintained in a clean, professional, organized and safe condition at all times.
- Coordinate logistics for witness cremations and viewings, ensuring a dignified experience for families.
- Oversee record-keeping, permit, and documentation in compliance with state regulations.
- Act as the key point of contact for staff and third-party partners on-site, providing support and guidance.
- Effective staff management - overseeing daily task execution, workforce schedule and running team stand-ups.
Required Licenses
- Arizona Funeral Director License
- Arizona Embalmer License
- Crematory Operator Certification (preferred; must be obtained if not currently held)
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a funeral home, crematory or related death care setting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, workflows and operational details.
- Compassionate communicator who can support families with empathy, clarity and professionalism.
- Comfortable with a mix of office work and hands-on operational tasks.
- Reliable, proactive and able to collaborate with a remote HQ team.
