ADL Ventures IC Computation Design/BIM/VDC Specialist Rockville, MD · Full time Company website

We are looking for a computational design and Virtual Design & Construction /Building Information Modelling Specialist who sees digital modeling as more than drawing buildings. You will help develop the digital systems that connect design, engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and onsite assembly for Industrialized Construction. The role combines BIM, computational design, parametric modeling, and basic software development to help turn buildings into configurable, repeatable products rather than one-off projects.

About ADL Ventures

By bridging the gap between incumbents and the entrepreneurial ecosystem, we deliver the full innovation life cycle from strategy to development to launch. ADL helps energy & infrastructure companies Assess, Develop and Launch new products, services and startups — and we lead innovation programs sponsored by DOE, NREL, and more! At ADL Ventures, our team is equal parts entrepreneurs and executives who have worked in innovation, R&D and corporate development for major institutions. We know how to be nimble when needed, and we understand the inherent pressures of bringing new products to market and scaling new businesses. We are accustomed to working across the entire lifecycle of a company, as well as with government institutions that act as pillars of each industry with incentives, regulations and key programming. Together, we inspire and energize a clean and vibrant world by rewriting the rules of engagement among new ventures, legacy organizations and governments.

Description

Location: NYC/Washington DC, USA

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain digital IC product models as a governed library of reusable BIM components, parametric assemblies, and configurable systems.
  • Define component geometry, interfaces, connection logic, allowable configurations, and type/instance parameters required for reliable reuse across projects.
  • Establish and maintain component data structures, including unique identifiers, classifications, shared parameters, materials, performance attributes, and manufacturing/installation data.
  • Build and manage reference and ‘federated’ models to validate component compatibility and architectural, structural, MEP, and system interfaces.
  • Translate DfMA, manufacturing, logistics, and assembly requirements into digital design/model constraints, including tolerances, connections, transport envelopes, lifting/access requirements, and installation sequencing.
  • Manage changes across disciplines so teams work with aligned, current information.
  • Support development of BIM/VDC standards and protocols for model authoring, naming, coordinates, information exchange, interoperability, version control, model QA/QC, and common data environments.
  • Help connect BIM and product data with downstream estimating, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and construction workflows.
  • Prototype new digital tools and workflows that improve how IC systems are designed, configured, manufactured, and deployed.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong hands-on experience developing and managing BIM content libraries, parametric modeling, and computation design in assemblies/architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, or a related field..
  • Deep understanding of object-based BIM data, including parameters, property sets, classifications, unique identifiers, LOD/LOI, and model information requirements.
  • Familiarity translating modular, prefabricated, DfMA, or manufacturing requirements into digital component and assembly logic.
  • Proficiency in relevant BIM authoring and coordination tools, such as Revit, Forma, Rhino/Grasshopper, Dynamo/Python, and Blender  including experience with APIs and AI design approaches.
  • Working knowledge of BIM interoperability and structured data standards, including IFC/OpenBIM and standardized information exchanges.
  • Experience establishing BIM execution standards, model QA/QC, configuration control, and multidisciplinary coordination workflows (e.g., clash detection).
  • Ability to develop scripts, automations, or lightweight software tools – not simply operate commercial BIM software.
  • A practical and innovative mindset.

Strong candidates may also have experience with:

  • Generative or rule-based design and automation configuration.
  • Revit & Forma API, RhinoCommon, Grasshopper plug-in development, or Dynamo package development.
  • Digital fabrication experiences with automated tools like CNC or other automated fabrication tools.
  • Database, APIs, JSON/XML, Git, or other software development and data management tools.
  • Tekla, Navisworks, Solibri, Catia/3DExperience Catia, Catia xGenerative Design/Visual Scripting, Enovia, Delmia,  Forma, Speckle.
