Perform all punch or slitter functions to support the manufacturing process as related to slitting and punching printed materials under the general direction of the shift supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Maintain all regulatory company health and housekeeping standards.
- Responsible for all safety and housekeeping in work area.
- Follow proper OSHA standards and is trained in energy isolation and confined spaces.
- Operates slitting machine to slit continuous lengths of material, for example printed cardboard, metallic foil, paper, plastic, or film into strips or smaller rolls of specified width.
- Selects, cleans, and installs spacers and cutters on slitter shafts.
- Inserts spacers to adjust spacing to specified tolerance.
- Presses button to adjust lower cutting shafts and measures clearance with gauges and rulers; adjust levers and controls to stop, start, and regulate speed of machine and to align material.
- Mounts rolls of the material on machine unwind supports and threads material over tension bar, and between feed rollers, and under cutting groups/blades. Laps end of slit material around tubes or cores.
- Starts machine and observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular cutting and winding.
- Operates Overhead Crane and lifting mechanisms to position rolls on unwind station or places roll on pallets as required by customers.
- May oil and clean machine.
- Moves Disengages winding shaft and removes narrow rolls of material.
Work Environment
Physical Demands:
- Work requires exerting up to 80 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 40lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. of force constantly to move/lift objects vertically and/or horizontally.
- Visual, especially color acuity for detecting flawed/substandard printing is vital to this position.
Work Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in production areas and on Slitting and Punch machines
- Continuous lifting standing, bending, stretching, and reaching for materials to load on pallets for finished goods.
- Push/pull printed press rolls or rolls from the slitter.
- In accordance with our safety program, all employees receive information training on required PPE equipment, chemicals, and equipment used within the lab and plant.
- Noise levels fluctuate according to proximity of operating equipment.
