What you will own
Architecture and systems
- Own the architecture and full-stack systems behind complex proprietary data, analytics pipelines, and LLM-powered features.
- Maintain and modernize our core stack: GCP-native infrastructure (Cloud Run, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Vertex AI), containers, CI/CD, and Ruby on Rails.
- Evaluate a new stack to modernize the frontend and backend, and bring a migration recommendation to the Head of Product & Marketing.
- Own integrations across our data and business systems, including Metabase, HubSpot, and the tools connecting product, analytics, customer, and operational data.
- Think in systems. Every feature touches an external platform, a background job, a database, an API contract, a client, and a customer report. Design so a break is visible before a customer sees it.
Data confidence and traceability
- Know where every number comes from. The platform pulls from several external sources, runs predictive scoring models, and reports back to customers.
- Trace a wrong metric to its source and fix the pipeline when an upstream platform changes.
- Write the SQL that answers a customer's question, and stand behind the number.
Quality, security, and compliance
- Set delivery standards: small PRs, tests that prove behavior, migrations that don't break a deploy, and structured logs and traces.
- Build and maintain the technical controls for data security, audit trails, HIPAA, and SOC 2, working with our Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, who owns the compliance program.
- Modernize engineering processes through streamlined code review, automated testing, and production monitoring.
Partnership with Product and the business
- Turn product priorities into a delivery plan, and be clear about what it will take.
- Join customer and partner calls when the work calls for it. Turn a thin spec into working software without waiting for exhaustive documentation.
- Push back when an ask won't hold up in production, and propose a better path. Your manager expects this.
- Work with Community, Customer Success, and Commercial teams so engineering output supports how we sell, deliver, and support the product.
Team building and mentorship
- Manage, mentor, and work alongside the engineering team, including engineers supporting AVA and NOWINCLUDED.
- Build the team intentionally, hiring engineers who are strong at rapid prototyping, system design, and disciplined delivery.
- Onboard new engineers into the codebase and the customer context.
AI-native development
- Use Claude Code, Cursor, or an equivalent for most of your output. Know when to prompt, when to code by hand, and how to evaluate AI-generated work critically.
- Write the repo instructions, decision records, and plans that help AI agents produce correct code the first time.
- Review agent output with the rigor you'd give a junior engineer's PR.
- Help the team improve how it uses AI through better workflows, shared practices, and internal tooling.
What you bring
Leadership and engineering experience
We're open to several profiles:
- 8+ years of engineering leadership, with a recent and proven shift to AI-native ways of working.
- 5+ years in AI-native engineering teams, with deep fluency in how they operate.
- 3–5 years, if you have clearly outpaced peers with more experience through speed and shipping.
In every case, you have led engineers directly and are comfortable reporting to a product and commercial leader rather than a technical one.
Technical depth
- 5+ years building production systems, including at least one you took from early design to customers using it.
- Data engineering and AI: data pipelines, data security, and LLM APIs or modern AI tooling in production.
- Cloud infrastructure: strong cloud experience, GCP preferred, including Cloud Run, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Vertex AI, and CI/CD practices.
- Full stack: backend architecture, data infrastructure, APIs, integrations, and front-end work. Ruby on Rails and a typed client framework preferred; strong Rails plus React and a willingness to learn Flutter also works.
- Data-model-first thinking: you design tables and APIs before screens, and can explain the tradeoffs.
- Healthcare or regulated-data experience (HIPAA, SOC 2, audit trails) is a strong plus.
AI tooling fluency
- Daily use of AI coding agents on real codebases, with a clear view of where they fail.
- A concrete approach to structuring a repo so an agent produces correct code, and to checking its work before merging.
Communication
- Plain, direct writing. Most coordination is asynchronous: PR descriptions, decision records, Slack updates, and memos a non-engineer can follow.
- You can explain technical risk and tradeoffs in business terms to a non-technical manager and to customers.
- Comfort with a small team, a real customer base, and ambiguity. Shipping is expected.
Salary and Benefits
Compensation depends on experience and includes base salary, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. At Acclinate, we offer a competitive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance with 50% of premiums covered by the company. We also provide a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) policy alongside dedicated paid sick leave.
