Abri Psychotherapy is hiring a Registered Dietitian to join our team and train under our current RD, Valerie Edwards, MS, RDN, LD. Valerie has specialized in eating disorders and disordered eating for more than 20 years, and she is well known and well connected in the Portland ED community. This is a rare chance to learn from a seasoned clinician firsthand. You’ll observe her work, consult with her on cases, and build your own eating disorder caseload with her mentorship.
Located in the heart of Portland, Abri Psychotherapy focuses on helping those who struggle with anxiety, eating disorders, OCD, and other disorders of overcontrol. We are the world's first clinic fully specialized in the modality of Radically Open DBT, a cutting-edge, research-backed treatment designed from the ground up to help people overcome these kinds of issues. Alongside this, we offer EMDR, ACT, nutrition therapy, and several group skills classes for both adults and adolescents.
Why RO-DBT matters for eating disorder work:
Abri specializes in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), a treatment developed by Dr. Thomas Lynch for disorders of overcontrol. Many people with restrictive eating disorders, especially anorexia nervosa, are highly self-controlled, perfectionistic, socially isolated, and rigid in their thinking. RO-DBT treats the eating disorder as one expression of that overcontrol. It targets the underlying patterns, not just the eating symptoms, and works to build openness, flexibility, and social connection.
RO-DBT has a growing evidence base in eating disorder treatment, and it is now the main group treatment model in the Maudsley Hospital’s intensive day program for adolescents with restrictive eating disorders in London. Every Abri therapist is intensively trained in RO-DBT, and our founder is one of only seven RO-DBT Certified Supervisors/Trainers worldwide. Abri pays for Level 1 and Level 2 RO-DBT training, along with ongoing RO-DBT supervision, so you can learn to bring its principles into your nutrition work. You’ll be part of a team that shares a common language for the rigidity and fear that so often stall recovery.
