The Government Teacher will provide instruction on U.S. government, political systems, civic responsibilities, and contemporary political issues to high school seniors and some juniors. This role focuses on preparing students to understand and engage in civic life, fostering critical thinking, and encouraging active participation in democracy.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons on U.S. government, the Constitution, political institutions, civil rights, and current events.
  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment that promotes student engagement and learning.
  • Assessment: Design assessments (quizzes, tests, projects) to evaluate student understanding and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Civic Engagement: Encourage students to participate in debates, discussions, mock elections, and civic projects that promote real-world application of government concepts.
  • Individual Support: Provide one-on-one or group support to students who need additional help in understanding complex topics.
  • Collaboration: Work with other social studies teachers and staff to develop interdisciplinary projects and support school-wide initiatives.
  • Stay Current: Keep up-to-date with state standards, curriculum changes, and current political events to integrate into lessons.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification for high school social studies (or appropriate state certification).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. government, civics, and political systems.
  • Experience teaching high school students preferred.

Other Responsibilities:


  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences.

Salary

$48,000 - $60,000 per year
