Chenmark, a growing private holding company focused on acquiring and managing small to medium-sized businesses, is currently seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented individual for the role of Accounting Associate. This role will be responsible for overseeing the firm's financial activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legal regulations, and contributing to higher-level financial strategy.


This role reports to one of Chenmark’s Founding Partners, and will collaborate closely with the Executive Vice President of the company while working across the group of operating companies. 


Responsibilities of the Accounting Associate include:

  • Review Operating Company Financials: Review and analyze financial reports of the operating companies, ensuring that they are accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory requirements and Chenmark’s accounting standards. Ensure balance sheet accounts make sense and are being updated properly. Work with third parties to build in checks to Operating company models and understand variances.
  • Chenmark Holdings Bookkeeping:  Manage the transactional accounting for Chenmark Holdings to ensure the GL and financial statements are accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory requirements.  Ensure months are closed in a timely manner and applicable supporting schedules are maintained.
  • Accounting and Journal Entries: Review and coordinate adjusting journal entries as necessary to maintain accurate records. Oversee the accounting operations of the firm and support OpCo controllers as questions arise.
  • Credit Applications: Help review and execute credit applications for OpCo’s.
  • 401k Management: Oversee the administration and management of the firm's 401k plan, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors during financial and operational audits. Prepare all necessary materials and ensure that all documentation is in order for the auditing process.

Specifically, they have at least two years of experience in a similar role, and possess a strong knowledge of GAAP. They are organized, and demonstrate excellent analytical skills. They are proficient in accounting software and other financial management tools, including Excel and they are interested in learning VBA macros, R, and other tools to automate workflows. CPA preferred, but not required.
