805UndocuFund is currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Community Organizer & Program Support Specialist. This role is pivotal in developing advocacy efforts across Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, as well as providing general program support for 805UndocuFund.

Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the 805 Immigrant Coalition: Facilitate and coordinate a collective of local immigrant rights organizations in the region, ensuring alignment and synergy in advocacy efforts.
  • Ready Rep Program: Help implement the Ready Rep program, mobilizing past aid recipients, including working-class and immigrant families impacted by disasters.
  • Advocacy for Emergency Operations Planning: Advocate for emergency operations planning that is culturally and linguistically competent, ensuring local governments allocate funds to support disaster distribution efforts for undocumented immigrants.
  • Community Mobilization: Engage and mobilize communities to participate in advocacy and disaster preparedness activities, focusing on local equitable solutions in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Program Support: Provide limited support for ongoing 805UndocuFund programs and initiatives as needed.

Position Details

  • Type: Part-Time (20-25 hours per week)
  • Location: Santa Barbara-Ventura County. Schedule flexible with some remote days per week, however some in-person meetings and events throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties will be required. 
  • Focus: Primarily working with undocumented immigrants, focusing on local equitable solutions in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Potential for Full-Time: The position has the possibility of becoming full-time in 2025.


Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree highly preferred but not required
  • Experience in community organizing and/or policy advocacy around social, economic, and disaster/emergency justice issues
  • Experience managing or facilitating coalitions preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment and passion for social, economic and/or disaster/emergency justice
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills including large-group public speaking and formal writing for publication
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office computer programs (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel) as well as web-based Google applications (Gmail, Google Docs)
  • Experience with and desire to work with diverse cultures and the ability to engage people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to interact professionally with elected officials, donors, board members, leaders of ally organizations, and news reporters
  • Strategic and analytical approach to political issues
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to set own work priorities, manage responsibilities and time
  • Flexibility and willingness to sometimes attend evening and weekend events/meetings, and be able to travel throughout region
  • Fluent (verbal and writing) English and Spanish language skills are required. Mixteco language skills are a plus.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret all documents in English & Spanish.


Physical Demands

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer and to operate a motor vehicle for commuting as needed; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Standing in and walking between work areas is frequently required. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds. Other Requirements 

Valid drivers’ license and dependable access to a car to drive for work required.


Compensation/Benefits

Hourly pay for this position will be $22 per hour depending on experience and education. Mile reimbursement will be determined based on state requirements. PT employees have access to 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave after a 90-day probationary period. We observe 11 paid holidays.
