8 Cents in a Jar is a cornerstone of financial stability in Central Florida, guiding students within the ALICE population and families living at or below 200% of the federal poverty line. Since 2016, this nonprofit has steered students aged 8 to 28 toward economic mobility through targeted financial education. Our mission is to enlighten youth from under-resourced communities with financial life skills and resources to prevent poverty and rise to a higher economic position. We nurture fiscal responsibility and self-reliance through meticulously designed educational initiatives, integrating personal finance, financial social work, and community wealth-building. This approach helps students heal from financial traumas, make informed financial decisions, and contribute to the local economy. The impact is evident in the tangible progress of our students, who have collectively saved substantial amounts and are moving closer to a positive net worth. 1. Program Leadership & Parenting, Family & Young Adult Advancement

• Lead the planning and implementation of programs serving young adults, parents, caregivers, and families.
• Manage cohorts, workshops, community-based activities, and signature program experiences from planning through completion.
• Create welcoming, culturally responsive experiences grounded in participants’ lived realities.
• Facilitate programming when appropriate and coordinate qualified facilitators, contractors, volunteers, and subject-matter experts when additional expertise is needed.
• Identify barriers to participation and work collaboratively to keep participants engaged and progressing.
• Lead Parenting Pays programming focused on parenting development, family functioning, wellness, financial capability, economic stability, and family leadership.
• Lead College Cash Flow Crew and related programming supporting emerging adults as they navigate education, careers, income, credit, saving, investing, and financial independence.
• Help strengthen the transition from high school into college, workforce, entrepreneurship, parenting, and other adult pathways.
• Connect families and young adults to community resources and specialized support when needs extend beyond 8 Cents in a Jar’s direct services.
• Help participants move from financial knowledge to practical decisions that support greater stability, ownership, and long-term wealth.

2. Community Partnerships & Program Enablement

• Build authentic relationships with schools, colleges, employers, family-serving organizations, workforce providers, and community partners.
• Coordinate partners and subject-matter experts to strengthen program delivery without duplicating services already available within the community.
• Represent 8 Cents in a Jar at partner sites, community meetings, outreach activities, and selected events.
• Collaborate with program staff to ensure schedules, resources, participant supports, and program materials are prepared and aligned.
• Help create repeatable systems and partnerships that strengthen program quality and scalability.

3. Participant Engagement & Reporting

• Monitor enrollment, attendance, participation, retention, and participant progress using provided systems and tools.
• Maintain clear communication with participants, partners, facilitators, and organizational leadership.
• Collaborate with program and data staff to ensure assessments, surveys, referrals, milestones, and outcomes are accurately documented.
• Use data, participant feedback, and observation to support continuous improvement and help ensure funded commitments and participant outcomes are achieved.

 

4. Thought Leadership & Advocacy

• Become deeply familiar with the mission of 8 Cents in a Jar and our Economic Succession approach to preventing poverty and increasing economic mobility.
• Understand the lived experiences of young adults and families from ALICE households and economically marginalized communities.
• Build trusted relationships while maintaining empathy, accountability, consistency, and high expectations.
• Recognize that families rarely experience challenges in neat categories and help connect the right people, resources, and opportunities around participants.

Qualifications

• Three years’ experience in leading community-based programs serving young adults, parents, families, or economically marginalized communities.
• Background in family services, parenting education, human services, young-adult development, education, workforce development, economic mobility, or a related area strongly desired.
• Experience independently coordinating programs, cohorts, community initiatives, or funded projects from planning through execution.
• Comfortable coordinating community partners, contractors, facilitators, and volunteers.
• Experience with grant-funded or government-funded programming preferred; familiarity with Two-Generation approaches, financial capability, college success, workforce development, or family economic mobility is a plus.
• Comfortable working remotely while regularly traveling throughout Central Florida for field-based programming and partnerships, including occasional evenings and weekends.
