The Routesetter is responsible for designing, setting, and maintaining climbing routes and boulders. This role involves weekly wall section setting, hold stripping, washing, and sorting bolts and screws. The ideal candidate will continuously develop their route-setting skills, mentor apprentices, and help create an engaging and safe climbing environment for guests.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Route Setting & Maintenance:
  • Design and set a variety of fun, accessible, and visually appealing routes and boulders for climbers of all skill levels.
  • Strip holds, wash, and sort bolts and screws.
  • Maintain climbing walls and volumes, including t-nut replacement, repainting, and general repairs.
  • Operational Support:
  • Complete pre- and post-shift tasks with accountability.
  • Keep a clean and organized work area.
  • Manage daily risk in the facility’s climbing areas.
  • Team & Community Engagement:
  • Facilitate excellent guest experiences by maintaining a welcoming facility presence.
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback on route setting.
  • Mentor apprentices as part of the routesetter apprenticeship program.
  • Assist the Setter Support Crew during wall maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in competitions, events, and workshops.
  • Professionalism & Safety:
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and responsiveness to customer and team feedback.

Qualifications:

  • At least one year of commercial route-setting experience.
  • Physical ability to perform setting tasks, including hold stripping, with extended use of ropes and ladders.
  • Capability to lift and carry heavy containers (over 50 lbs).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to seek, accept, and provide constructive feedback.
  • A high standard of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to safety.
  • Flexibility to work special events, clinics, and competitions at both the home facility and other locations.


Salary

$16 - $22 per hour
