Michigan Interfaith Power & Light

Founded in 2002, Michigan Interfaith Power & Light (IPL) works statewide to gather and focus the power of Michigan’s faith communities to repair our climate and create a world where all beings can thrive. Michigan IPL’s theory of change is a 3-legged stool: practical action, systems change, and spiritual/relational transformation. Clean energy and climate action projects are often our starting point to help communities realize tangible benefits while building their skills to change systems and deepen their spiritual connection with Earth, neighbors, and the web of life. Michigan IPL is growing our team to support congregations taking climate action statewide and to provide specific project support to Detroit-based congregations and food pantries as they become hubs for climate resilience– receiving energy efficiency improvements, solar, and green stormwater infrastructure measures while learning to respond to their community’s needs when weather emergencies strike. Other areas of organizational focus include supporting regional Michigan IPL chapters, nurturing congregational green teams, and bringing a faith-rooted, prophetic voice to climate advocacy.
